Back to newsGreek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni visited the Minoan archaeological site of Zominthos in central Crete, using the occasion to highlight Crete's growing prominence as a global cultural destination. Zominthos is a Bronze Age palatial complex located on the slopes of Mount Ida (Psiloritis), at roughly 1,200 metres elevation near the village of Anogia. The site has been under active excavation for several years and offers visitors a rare glimpse into Minoan life away from the coastal palaces. Mendoni's visit signals continued government investment in the site's development and international visibility. Tourists interested in Minoan history can visit Zominthos during excavation season, typically spring through early autumn. The site is accessible by car from Heraklion in approximately one hour.
