Health Minister Backs Chania Hospital Funding Boost

Wednesday, 8 July 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Greece's Health Minister Georgiadis has expressed support for classifying Chania Hospital as a medically underserved area, a designation that would unlock additional state funding and financial incentives to attract and retain doctors and medical staff. The minister confirmed he will advance the formal process, while also calling on the Chania municipality to contribute what it can on its end. For visitors to western Crete, this is a positive development: Chania Hospital is the main public medical facility serving the region, and improved staffing levels would strengthen healthcare capacity during the busy summer tourist season. The hospital handles emergencies and urgent care for both residents and the large number of tourists who visit the Chania area each year.
