Greece Tightens Alcohol Controls for Underage Hotel Guests

Sunday, 31 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Greece's Ministry of Health has issued a new circular requiring hotels across the country, including those in Crete, to enforce stricter alcohol controls for minors. Hotels must now verify guests' ages at check-in and ensure that underage guests cannot access alcohol through mini bars or room service. Staff are required to follow updated procedures when registering guests, identifying rooms occupied by minors and restricting alcohol access accordingly. The rules apply to all hotel categories and are part of a broader national effort to reduce underage drinking in tourist accommodation. Families travelling with children should be aware that hotel staff may ask for identification or date of birth at check-in. Mini bar access in rooms with minors may be restricted or removed. The circular does not affect adult guests and standard bar or restaurant service remains unchanged.
