Greece Restricts New Short-Term Rental Licenses in Major Cities

Friday, 8 May 2026/CretaOne/1
Greece is introducing new legislation that restricts the issuance of short-term rental licenses, similar to those used by Airbnb hosts, in at least one major city. The new bill targets new license applications only. Hosts who already hold a valid license and operate legally will not be affected and can continue renting to visitors as usual. For tourists, this means the existing supply of licensed short-term rentals remains available for upcoming trips. New rental properties entering the market in the affected city may be limited going forward, which could gradually reduce availability and affect pricing in popular neighborhoods. Travelers planning to rent through platforms like Airbnb should book early, particularly for peak summer months, as the pool of new listings may shrink over time under this regulation.
