Crete Water Agreement: 5.8M Cubic Meters Allocated to 3 Municipalities

Thursday, 7 May 2026/CretaOne/1
Crete's regional development authority (OAK) has reached an agreement with the municipalities of Heraklion, Hersonissos, and Agios Nikolaos on water allocation from the Aposelemis Dam for the next 12 months. A total of 5.8 million cubic meters of water will be distributed among the three municipal water utilities (DEUА) serving these areas. The Aposelemis Dam, located in the Heraklion regional unit, is one of the island's primary freshwater sources and supplies some of its most visited tourist destinations. The agreement ensures a stable water supply across the north-central and northeastern coast during the period ahead. Tourists visiting Heraklion, the Hersonissos resort area, or Agios Nikolaos can expect normal water services throughout the upcoming season.
