Back to newsGreece's national employment agency DYPA has launched its Social Tourism program for 2026-2027, issuing 300,000 vouchers to eligible residents, including low-income households, pensioners, and registered unemployed individuals. The vouchers can be redeemed at participating hotels and accommodation providers across Greece, including Crete, covering a portion of the stay cost.
For tourists visiting Crete, this program increases domestic Greek visitor numbers at participating properties during the program period, which may affect availability at budget and mid-range hotels, particularly outside peak summer weeks. Travelers booking accommodations in Crete should confirm availability in advance, especially at smaller family-run hotels that commonly participate in the scheme. The program runs through 2027, so its effect on occupancy levels will be felt across multiple seasons. International visitors are not eligible for the vouchers.
