Back to newsThe Samaria Gorge in the Chania region of western Crete will be open on Monday, May 25, according to an announcement from OFYPEKA (the Natural Environment and Climate Change Organisation). The decision follows a review of the latest weather forecast from the Greek Meteorological Service. The Samaria Gorge, one of Europe's longest gorges at 16 kilometres, is a top attraction for hikers visiting Crete. Visitors planning to hike on Monday should confirm opening times before departure, wear sturdy footwear, carry sufficient water, and allow around five to seven hours for the full trail. The gorge entrance is located near the village of Omalos, approximately one hour by road from Chania city. Check OFYPEKA's official channels for any last-minute updates before your visit.
