Crete Heat Warning: Remove These 8 Items From Your Car

Sunday, 5 July 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Cretalive, a leading Cretan news outlet, has issued a safety warning urging residents and visitors to remove certain items from parked cars during the intense Greek summer heat. Temperatures inside vehicles can exceed 70°C (158°F) on hot days in Crete, creating serious hazards. The eight items flagged include aerosol cans, which can explode under pressure, lighters and butane cartridges, medications that degrade or become dangerous when overheated, sunscreen and cosmetics that can combust or leak, plastic water bottles that may leach chemicals and become a fire risk if left near glass, batteries and electronic devices, food and perishables, and glasses or magnifying items that can focus sunlight and ignite interiors. Tourists renting cars are advised to clear these items before leaving vehicles in open-air car parks, especially during July and August when temperatures regularly exceed 38°C outdoors.
