A monument honoring Michail Skalidakis, a Greek gendarmerie officer from Kefali Sarakinas in the Chania region, has been restored by local volunteers. Skalidakis was killed on September 15, 1947, at a location known as Poros Mesavlion. The restoration effort was carried out by community members dedicated to preserving the memory of those who lost their lives during the turbulent post-war period in Crete. Visitors traveling through the Chania region can pay their respects at this restored memorial, which reflects the island's layered history of resistance and sacrifice. The site is located in the Sarakina area of western Crete, a region known for its rugged landscape and historical significance. No special access restrictions are reported, making this a quiet stop for history-minded travelers exploring the Chania hinterland.
