Read the story

Kenourgio Horio, Pediada Province hosts the ruins of a chateau that belonged to the family of Markantonio Foscolo . The tower was known by the will of the Cretan comedian poet of " Fortunato ", Marco Foscolo ; the will was written in Candia in 1661, while the city was under siege by the Ottomans.

The tower was tall, but the upper part of it collapsed after an earthquake in 1926. On the east wall of the tower, an inscription was discovered in 1973 writing « Andreas Fosc (olo) restaurare Fecit, M ... » which means " Andrew Foskolos cared for the restoration in... year ”, which is located in the Historical Museum of Crete .

Probably, the inscription was not initially in the building of the tower, but was later detached from the temple of Agioi Saranda , which was built very close to the tower, perhaps when the Turks restored the tower.
