Multi-vehicle crash in Messara, Crete injures two; children among occupants

Sunday, 5 July 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
A road accident in the Messara plain area of Crete resulted in two injuries and required an emergency rescue operation to free those trapped in the vehicles. Children were among the occupants of one of the cars involved. Emergency services responded to the scene to carry out the extrication and provide medical assistance to the injured. The Messara plain, located in the southern part of the Heraklion regional unit, is a popular area for tourists visiting sites such as the Minoan palace of Phaistos and the nearby beaches of the Libyan Sea. Roads in rural Cretan areas can be narrow and winding, and drivers should exercise caution, particularly on regional routes connecting inland villages to coastal destinations. Tourists renting cars in Crete are advised to drive at reduced speeds on unfamiliar roads and remain alert to local traffic conditions.
