Back to newsTraffic congestion in Malia, a popular resort town on Crete's north-central coast, is raising concerns among local hoteliers who warn the situation is harming tourism. Hotel owners have sounded the alarm over chronic road bottlenecks affecting the area, which is heavily visited during the summer season. The traffic issues are causing delays for tourists travelling along the coastal route between Heraklion and the eastern resorts. Visitors heading to or from Malia should allow extra travel time, particularly during peak hours and weekends in July and August. Hoteliers are calling on local authorities to implement traffic management measures before conditions worsen further during the height of the summer season.
