Back to newsTwo wildfires in Crete have been brought under control, according to authorities. The fire near Ierapetra, a coastal town on the southern coast of eastern Crete, has been fully contained with no active front remaining. A separate fire in Gazi, a village just west of Heraklion on the northern coast, also has no active front at this time. Fire services and aerial units responded to both incidents. Tourists in or around these areas should remain alert to any local authority updates, as conditions can change quickly during the summer months. Smoke may still be visible in the vicinity. Visitors planning trips to Ierapetra or the Heraklion area are advised to check local emergency services for the latest updates before traveling to rural or hillside locations.
