Two Accidents on Crete's BOAK Highway Cause Traffic Disruptions

Wednesday, 8 July 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Two road accidents occurred in Crete within a short period. The first involved a multi-vehicle collision on the BOAK, the main east-west highway crossing the island. The second incident resulted in injuries to a motorcyclist at a separate location. Both accidents took place in close succession, temporarily affecting traffic flow on the BOAK. Tourists driving between Heraklion and eastern Crete should allow extra travel time and exercise caution on the highway. Motorcyclists and scooter riders are reminded to wear helmets and drive defensively, as two-wheel accidents are common on Cretan roads, particularly during summer when traffic volume increases significantly. If traveling by car, check local traffic conditions before departing and maintain safe following distances on the BOAK, which sees heavy tourist and commercial traffic throughout the summer season.
