Back to newsGreece is entering its summer 2026 season with consistently hot and dry conditions across most regions. In Crete, temperatures throughout July and August regularly reach 30 to 35 degrees Celsius, with coastal areas benefiting from the Meltemi wind that provides natural cooling, particularly on the north coast and eastern plateau. Heraklion, Chania, and Rethymno will see little to no rainfall between June and September. The south coast, including Matala and Plakias, tends to be hotter and more sheltered from the wind. Tourists should pack high-SPF sun protection, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity between noon and 4 pm. Mountain areas such as the White Mountains and Lasithi Plateau offer cooler temperatures for hiking. Sea temperatures average around 25 degrees Celsius, ideal for swimming throughout the season.
