Back to newsThe municipality of Hersonissos has signed a contract for a new street lighting infrastructure project covering roads and public spaces in the Malia municipal district. The project will upgrade and expand lighting across the area, improving visibility and safety after dark. Malia, a popular coastal resort on the north coast of Crete roughly 34 km east of Heraklion, attracts large numbers of tourists each summer. Better street lighting will benefit visitors exploring the town on foot at night, particularly around the busy resort strip and the access roads to the nearby Minoan archaeological site. No completion date has been officially announced, so short-term disruption from installation work is possible. Tourists driving or walking through Malia this season should be aware of potential roadside works in the area.
