Heraklion Launches Restoration of Iconic Morosini Fountain

Thursday, 18 June 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
The Tourism and Entrepreneurship Committee of the Municipality of Heraklion held a meeting focused on the restoration and maintenance of the Morosini Fountain, one of Heraklion's most iconic landmarks. The project is being coordinated between the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sport (YPPО) and the Destination Management and Marketing Organization (DMMO). The Morosini Fountain, located in Lions Square (Plateia Liondarion) in the heart of Heraklion's old town, dates to the Venetian period and is a popular gathering point for visitors. Tourists planning to visit should be aware that ongoing maintenance work may affect access or visibility of the fountain. No completion date has been announced yet. Lions Square remains otherwise accessible and continues to host cafes, shops, and street life central to the Heraklion experience.
