Wildfire Near Crete's Bramiano Reservoir; Emergency Operations Underway

Monday, 6 July 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
A wildfire broke out near the Bramiano reservoir in Ierapetra, in the southeastern part of Crete. Emergency services activated the 112 alert system, and firefighting operations are underway using both ground crews and aerial support. Ierapetra is a popular coastal town on the south coast, roughly 36 km southeast of Agios Nikolaos. Tourists in the area should stay clear of the Bramiano dam zone, follow instructions from local authorities, and monitor the 112 emergency channel for updates. Road access near the affected area may be restricted. If you are traveling along the south coast road toward Ierapetra, allow extra time or check local conditions before departing. Keep windows closed if you are nearby and smoke is visible. For emergencies in Greece, call 112. The situation is active and conditions may change quickly.
