Crete Issues Very High Fire Risk Warning for Tuesday

Monday, 6 July 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Crete's Regional Civil Protection Authority has issued a Very High Fire Risk warning for Tuesday, July 7, 2026, covering the prefectures of Heraklion, Lasithi, and Rethymno. This is the second-highest risk level on the national fire danger scale, triggered by dry conditions and seasonal heat. Tourists in these areas should avoid lighting fires, using barbecues, or discarding cigarettes outdoors. Do not park vehicles on dry grass. If you spot a fire, call the emergency number 199 immediately. Access to forested areas and nature trails in the affected prefectures may be restricted or closed on this date. Check with local authorities or your accommodation before planning hikes, excursions, or visits to natural sites. Stay on marked paths and follow any posted warnings or closures throughout the day.
