Crete Recruits 35 Doctors to Expand Primary Healthcare Across Island

Friday, 26 June 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Crete is recruiting 35 permanent doctors to staff Health Centers and Multi-purpose Medical Clinics across the island. This expansion of primary healthcare infrastructure means improved medical coverage in both urban and rural areas of Crete. For tourists, this is positive news: greater doctor availability at local health centers reduces wait times and improves access to care should you need non-emergency medical attention during your stay. Health Centers (Kentro Ygeias) are spread across the island and offer free or low-cost consultations. Visitors are still advised to carry valid travel insurance and a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) if applicable. In a medical emergency, dial 166 for ambulance services or visit the nearest hospital in Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, or Agios Nikolaos.
