Back to newsHELLENiQ Energy, Greece's largest energy company, announced that initial results from its hydrocarbon exploration surveys off the coasts of Crete and the Peloponnese will be available by summer 2027. The company is conducting seismic surveys in designated offshore blocks to assess the potential for oil and gas reserves beneath the seabed. These explorations are part of Greece's broader push to develop domestic energy resources. For visitors to Crete, the surveys take place offshore and have no impact on beaches, tourism infrastructure, or daily life on the island. The exploration vessels operate at sea and are not visible from most coastal areas. Results next summer will determine whether further drilling is warranted, a process that would unfold over several years before any commercial activity could begin.
