Back to newsThe municipal authority of Heraklion has promised to develop an underground parking facility and public park on the former ABEA industrial site within three years. The announcement came after the local council faced criticism over the long-delayed use of the plot. ABEA was a historic olive oil processing company whose former grounds have sat largely unused in the city. If completed on schedule, the project would add meaningful green space and parking capacity to central Heraklion, an area where parking can be challenging for visitors arriving by car. Tourists planning trips to Heraklion in the coming years should note that construction activity near this site may cause some local disruption. The target completion date places the opening around mid-2029.
