A light magnitude 3.3 earthquake occurred on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 4:45 pm Athens time. The epicenter was located in the Eastern Mediterranean, approximately 46 kilometers south of Sitia, in the Lasithi region of eastern Crete. Earthquakes of this magnitude are common in the Eastern Mediterranean and are generally not dangerous. A 3.3 magnitude event may be felt locally as a brief tremor but typically causes no structural damage. Tourists in the Sitia area or eastern Crete at the time may have noticed slight shaking, but there is no cause for concern. No damage or injuries have been reported. Visitors to Lasithi and the eastern coast can continue their activities normally. Greece sits in one of Europe's most seismically active zones, and minor tremors of this nature occur regularly without impact on travel or safety.
