Wednesday, 10 June 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
A traffic accident involving wild boars occurred in the early morning hours on the old BOAK highway near Heraklion. Two female tourists were injured and transported to hospital following the collision. The BOAK is the main east-west road crossing northern Crete, connecting Heraklion to both the eastern and western parts of the island. Tourists driving on this route, particularly at night or in the early morning hours, should be aware that wild animals including wild boars can cross the road unexpectedly. Reduce speed when driving in rural or semi-rural stretches of the BOAK during low-visibility hours, and stay alert for wildlife on the road. If you are involved in or witness an accident in Crete, the emergency number is 112. The condition of the two tourists was not specified in the report.
