Phaistos Palace Awarded €3.5M Restoration Investment

The Minoan Palace of Phaistos, one of Crete's most significant archaeological sites, is set to receive €3.5 million in funding through the regional development program "Crete 2021-2027." The funding was formally approved and signed by Regional Governor Stavros Arnaoutakis. Located in the Messara plain in southern Crete, Phaistos is the island's second largest Minoan palace after Knossos, dating back over 3,500 years. The investment will support preservation and improvement works at the site. For visitors, this is good news: the funding is expected to enhance the overall experience at Phaistos, which currently draws far fewer crowds than Knossos and offers a more open, unrestored view of Minoan architecture.
