Monday, 18 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
On the morning of Monday, May 18, a fire broke out on a boat moored at the Venetian Harbor in Heraklion. Two fire engines and five firefighters responded quickly to the scene. The incident caused temporary disruption in and around the harbor area. The Venetian Harbor is a popular destination for tourists, home to waterfront restaurants, the iconic Koules Fortress, and ferry departure points. Visitors planning to walk along the harbor front or catch a ferry from Heraklion Port that morning may have experienced delays or restricted access while emergency services were on site. No injuries have been reported at this stage. The fire was contained by responding crews. Tourists are advised to check with their ferry operator if they have departures scheduled from Heraklion Harbor today, as some minor disruption to normal operations may still be in effect.
