Back to newsA documentary filmed at the Lasithi Plateau in eastern Crete has been selected for the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival 2026, taking place October 7-11 in Innsbruck, Austria. Titled "2258: A Story of the Rebirth of the Land," the film highlights the Lasithi Plateau's landscape and environmental significance, bringing international attention to this lesser-visited inland region of Crete. The Lasithi Plateau, located in the Lasithi regional unit at roughly 840 meters altitude, is known for its traditional windmills, agricultural history, and the Dikteon Cave, mythological birthplace of Zeus. Visitors interested in the area can reach it by car from Heraklion in approximately one hour. The documentary's international recognition is a reminder that the plateau offers a genuine cultural and natural experience beyond Crete's coastal resorts.
