Leggi la storia

Vlychades beach is located in the Livari area, about 90 km southeast of Agios Nikolaos and 7 km east of Goudouras , in one of the most isolated areas of Crete where you can truly be alone. To the east is the large Atherinolakkos power plant.

You can get here from Ierapetra by taking the road to Sitia and continuing after Goudouras. The beach name means "brackish spring" and takes its name from a spring with brackish water.

The beach is protected by cliffs and access is via a break that creates a stream about halfway through. Nearby are the two only tamarisk trees on the beach, where you can usually find shade (if they are not already occupied).

The bad dirt road that runs parallel to and over the red-earth cliffs reaches an old sheep yard. From there you can go to the two smaller and more rocky beaches of Vlychades .
