Leggi la storia

Sykiés beach is located in a remote area about 24km east of Agios Nikolaos , 4km west of Kavousi in Ierapetra, and just north of Agriomandra Beach . Above the beach stand a few fig trees (sykies), which reveal the presence of moisture in the ground.

The beach is mostly pebbly with rocky parts and is exposed to the frequent northern winds. There is no natural shade and, as expected, no facilities of any kind.

High above the coast, old stone terraces with olive trees can still be seen. With caution, it is possible to descend to the shore from there, but in practice, access is usually made by boat, as hiking down can be quite demanding.

The wider landscape to the north is striking, with vertical cliffs creating a dramatic, otherworldly scenery. These cliffs reach their maximum height of 219m at a prominent cape known locally as “ Spathi tou Chomata ”.

At its base lies a secluded beach with deep turquoise waters, accessible only by boat.
