Saint Anthony Monastery in Karydi

The Monastery of Saint Anthony (Agios Antonios) is located at an altitude of 536m, north of the village Karydi near Neapolis , on a steep rocky slope. The small monastery today is uninhabited and a program of restoration of its ruined buildings has started.

The temple of the complex is dedicated to Saint Anthony and celebrates on January 17. It is barrel-vaulted and one of its walls rests on the rock of the mountain.

Near the temple there is a small cave, which was used as a monk cell. It was a small monastery with the church arranged adjacent to the cells, something very common in the Catholic monasteries of Crete.
