Leggi la storia

The temple of Michael Archangel is hidden amidst centuries-old olive groves a few meters out of the settlement Sarakina , province Selino, and very close to the village cemetery. The church is built on the site of the middle aisle of a three-aisled and wooden-roofed early Christian basilica, from which part of the arch of the sanctuary is preserved.

The interior has a built iconostasis and frescoes dating back to the early 14th century, around 1325, and attributed to the workshop of the famous painter of Western Crete, Ioannis Pagomenos . The pictorial program includes scenes of the gospel and the circle of archangels in the arch and standing saints in the low parts, and Michael Archangel in the arch.
