Leggi la storia

Kamini is an area with 5 pebble beaches in a series close to the famous Minoan settlement Gournia by Pahia Ammos . The area is located north of the archaeological site and was probably the access point of Gournia to the sea.

Therefore we still meet Minoan buildings in the area with the most important almost on the sea level. We can see traces of rooms, walls and shipsheds (boathouses).

At the same area the necropolis of Gournia has been identified. Apart from the archaeological importance of the region, Kamini has an exceptional natural beauty.

Around the coastline limestone conglomerates and dark red soil form a colorful scenery. We meet nice geological formations, sea caves, rock bridges and five beaches with fine or coarse pebble, most of which are not easily accessible.

The area is exposed to north winds which unfortunately carry a huge amount of garbage from all over the Aegean Sea. The sight of the garbage is sickening as there is virtually no rock without a plastic object or nylon bag.

This fact, combined with the strong winds, have kept visitors away. But if there are south winds, it is a true miracle of nature because water has a unique turquoise color and clarity.
