Church of Saint John the Apostle in Mesa Mouliana

The imposing three-aisled church of Saint John the Theologian (Agios Ioannis) in Mesa Mouliana is located at the edge of the village and is the result of successive interventions in the original medieval Byzantine single-aisled church. During the Venetian occupation the church was expanded by the addition of the aisle of Saint Charalambos to the south, while in the 19th century the two aisles were extended to the west and the aisle of the Holy Trinity (Agia Triada) was added to the north.

Apart from the impressive bell tower over the central aisle, the church inside preserves the frescoes of the 14th century in the sanctuary. We can distinguish the scene of Deesis and five hierarchs with closed sacred books.

We can also discern Saint Jacob who accompanies the hierarchs dressed as an apostle.
