In the center of the village Axos , province Mylopotamos, next to the centuries-old plane tree and just above the fountain, there is the two-nave ruined temple of Archangel Michael (Astratigos). The temple is built on the ruins of an ancient Christian basilica of ancient Axos , where one can still discern the traces of the large semicircular arch of the sanctuary.
The temple dates back from the 15th century and bears frescoes, from which few traces in the sanctuary are preserved. On the remaining surviving walls, as expected, the murals have been destroyed due to the collapse of the roof and exposure to weather conditions for centuries.
Inside the temple there are marble architectural parts, apparently from the initial basilica.
