Ammoudares beaches

Ammoudares is located 8km west of Ierapetra and 45km south of Agios Nikolaos , near Nea Anatoli and Stomio , which all share actually the same beachfront. Ammoudares beachfront consists of sequential long beaches with coarse gray sand.

Most beaches are unorganized and secluded. They are not popular, mainly because the area is surrounded by greenhouses; you could avoid swimming in the area due to pesticides. 1km east of Ammoudares first beach, you will meet the beach of Kalamaki .

It is a nice sandy beach. totally unknown to visitors, since it is well hidden from the main road. It is also called Kapelas , due to a legendary pizzeria that used to operate here by an American ( kapelas means tavern owner in Greek).

The beach is surrounded by high cliffs and is very quiet. You can drive to Ammoudares and Kalamaki from Ierapetra by getting the main road heading west.

However, if you are lucky to visit Ierapetra area, there are very many nice beaches in the area that surely deserve a visit. If however, you want to find a place that nobody is going to disturb you, Ammoudares and Kalamaki is one of these.
