Greece Recruits 441 Doctors, 35 for Crete Healthcare Boost

Monday, 29 June 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Greece's Ministry of Health has announced a recruitment drive for 441 permanent doctors across the country, with 35 positions allocated to Crete. The move aims to strengthen public healthcare staffing on the island. For tourists visiting Crete, this is a positive development: increased medical personnel at local hospitals and health centers means shorter wait times and improved access to care should you need medical attention during your stay. Crete's main public hospitals are located in Heraklion (PAGNI University Hospital) and Chania (Chania General Hospital), both equipped to handle tourist emergencies. The positions are permanent roles, so the staffing improvements will be gradual rather than immediate. Travelers are still advised to carry European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC) if applicable, or ensure adequate travel health insurance before arrival.
