New Medical Clinic Approved for Askyfou Plateau in Sfakia, Crete

Saturday, 4 July 2026/SourceHaniotika Nea/1 min read
A new Regional Medical Clinic has been approved for the village of Askyfou, located on the Askyfou plateau in the Sfakia region of southwestern Crete. The approval followed coordinated efforts by Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum Sevi Voludhaki and Deputy Health Minister Irini Agapidaki. Askyfou sits at approximately 700 meters altitude along the main road connecting Chania to the south coast, a route popular with visitors heading to Sfakia, Loutro, and the Samaria Gorge area. The plateau is also home to a WWII museum and is a recognized stop on scenic drives through the White Mountains. The new clinic will provide basic medical services to local residents and the surrounding rural communities. For tourists, this means improved emergency medical access in an area that is relatively remote and currently underserved by healthcare infrastructure.
