A minor earthquake of magnitude 2.6 struck approximately 13 kilometers south-southeast of Tsoutsouros, a small coastal village on the southern coast of Crete, on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 4:47 pm local time (GMT+3). Tsoutsouros is located in the Heraklion regional unit, along a relatively remote stretch of the southern Cretan coastline. At magnitude 2.6, this is a very small seismic event. Earthquakes below magnitude 3.0 are generally not felt by people and cause no damage. Crete sits in one of Europe's most seismically active regions, and minor tremors of this scale are common and routine. No impact on tourist activities, infrastructure, beaches, or travel is expected. Visitors to the area can continue their plans without concern.
