Ryanair closes Thessaloniki base, suspends Crete flights

Friday, 8 May 2026/Keep Talking Greece/1
Ryanair has officially announced the closure of its operating base at Thessaloniki Airport at the end of October, citing increased annual airport fees as the reason. As a direct consequence, the airline will also suspend several routes, including flights to Chania and Heraklion in Crete. This means travelers who previously relied on Ryanair connections through Thessaloniki to reach Crete will need to find alternative routes. Visitors planning trips to Crete from northern Greece or connecting through Thessaloniki should review their bookings and explore other carriers or routing options. Direct international Ryanair flights to Crete from other European cities may remain unaffected, but it is advisable to confirm your specific route with the airline. Travelers are encouraged to book alternative flights early, as reduced capacity on these routes could lead to higher prices closer to the travel date.
