Crete faces Meltemi winds, 34°C heat, and rough seas

Sunday, 5 July 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Crete is experiencing strong northerly winds (Meltemi) today, July 5, with temperatures reaching up to 32-34 degrees Celsius across the island. A slight drop in temperature is expected compared to recent days, offering minimal relief from the summer heat. The northerly winds will be felt especially along exposed coastal areas and hilltops. Tourists planning boat trips, ferry crossings, or water activities should check with operators before departure, as sea conditions may be rough in open waters. On land, the wind can provide a cooling effect but may also make beach umbrellas and lightweight gear difficult to manage. Stay hydrated, seek shade during peak afternoon hours (1pm to 5pm), and apply sunscreen regularly. Lightweight, breathable clothing is recommended. Conditions are typical for Cretan summer and should remain stable throughout the day.
