Fire Breaks Out in Olive Grove Near Heraklion; Smoke Affects Tourists

A fire broke out in an olive grove in the Garipa area, located east of Heraklion in central Crete. The Fire Service responded to the alarm and mobilized crews to the scene. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Olive grove fires are a recurring concern in Crete during the summer months due to dry conditions and high temperatures. Tourists traveling along the northern coastal road between Heraklion and Malia should be aware that smoke may be visible from the highway and could affect visibility in the area. Authorities are managing the situation. Visitors are advised to follow any road directives from local police if passing through the Garipa area, and to avoid approaching active fire zones. No injuries or evacuations have been reported at this stage.
