Back to newsHeraklion held a large religious procession to mark the 60th anniversary of the return of the Sacred Skull of Saint Titus to Crete. Saint Titus was the first bishop of Crete and a disciple of the Apostle Paul, making him one of the island's most revered religious figures. His sacred relic had been held in Venice for centuries before being returned to the Saint Titus Church in Heraklion in 1966. The procession drew crowds of locals and clergy through the city center. The Saint Titus Church, located near the heart of Heraklion's old town on 25th August Street, is open to visitors year-round and houses the relic. Tourists interested in Orthodox Christian heritage and Cretan history will find it one of the most historically significant religious sites in the city, well worth a visit during any stay in Heraklion.
