Crete's Tourist Arrivals Jump 9.8% as Spring Demand Surges

Tuesday, 2 June 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Crete's 2025 tourist season is off to a strong start, with international arrivals in May rising 9.8% compared to the same period last year. The increase reflects growing demand from European and international travelers choosing the island as a spring destination. This uptick in visitor numbers means popular sites, beaches, and restaurants may be busier than usual, particularly in well-known areas such as Heraklion, Chania, and Rethymno. Tourists planning to visit during peak summer months of July and August should book accommodations, car rentals, and popular excursions well in advance. The strong early-season figures also suggest that ferry connections, airport transfers, and local services will be operating at high capacity throughout the summer. Arriving on weekdays or exploring less-visited eastern Crete can help avoid the busiest crowds.
