Crete Migration Arrivals Persist Despite Eastern Aegean Decline

Wednesday, 20 May 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Greek Migration Minister Plevris has stated that migration arrivals in Crete remain at consistently high levels and are not declining at the same rate seen in the Eastern Aegean islands. Unlike routes near Turkey where crossings have dropped following recent policy measures, Crete continues to receive steady flows of migrants arriving by sea. Greek coast guard and reception authorities remain active in managing arrivals along the island's southern coastline. For tourists, this has no direct impact on travel to Crete. Visitors may occasionally notice coast guard activity in coastal areas, particularly along the south coast near Ierapetra and Paleochora. Beach access and tourist facilities are unaffected. Travelers can continue to visit Crete normally, and no disruption to ferry services, airports, or tourist zones has been reported in connection with this situation.
