Greece Intercepts Gaza-Bound Flotilla, Detains 176 Activists in Crete

Friday, 1 May 2026/Google News/1
Greek authorities have confirmed that 176 activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, a vessel attempting to reach Gaza, are currently in Crete following an intervention at sea. Of those onboard, 31 required first aid treatment. The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official statement regarding the incident. The flotilla's detention and the presence of a large group of activists on the island may result in increased media activity and a visible security or coast guard presence in certain port areas. Tourists in Crete are not affected directly, but visitors near major ports such as Heraklion should expect some additional activity. There are no reported disruptions to ferry services or tourist facilities at this time.
