Badia Dam Feasibility Study Complete: €17.9M Irrigation Plan

A completed feasibility and design study for the Badia Dam has been presented to local authorities in the Municipality of Minoa Pediada, located in the Heraklion regional unit of central Crete. The project, described as strategically significant for the area, includes the construction of the dam alongside a modern irrigation network. The total budget is estimated at 17,888,748 euros. The initiative aims to improve water management and agricultural irrigation capacity in the Pediada plain, an inland farming region southeast of Heraklion. For tourists, the project signals longer-term investment in Crete's rural infrastructure and water resources, though no disruption to roads or visitor access in the area is expected at this stage. The study presentation marks a formal step toward advancing the project through funding and approval processes.
