Several neighborhoods in the Akrotiri peninsula, near Chania, experienced a multi-hour power outage on Saturday morning. The disruption was planned by DEDDIE (the Greek electricity distribution network operator) to carry out maintenance and infrastructure works in the area.
Akrotiri is a popular destination for tourists, home to the Chania International Airport, several beaches, and historic monasteries. Visitors staying or traveling in this area on Saturday morning may have experienced temporary disruptions to accommodation services, restaurants, or facilities dependent on electricity.
The outage was scheduled and limited in duration. Travelers with early morning flights from Chania Airport should have been unaffected, as the airport operates on independent backup systems. Normal power was expected to be restored once works were completed.
