A memorial ceremony was held at the Monument to the Executed on Tavronitis Beach, honoring the residents of Tavronitis and Kamisiana who were killed during the German occupation of Crete in World War II. The event was organized by the Municipality of Platanias. Tavronitis, located on the northwest coast of Crete in the Chania regional unit, holds significant historical weight as the site of fierce fighting during the Battle of Crete in May 1941. The bridge at Tavronitis was a key objective during the German airborne invasion. Visitors traveling along the northern coastal road between Chania and Kissamos will pass through Tavronitis. The monument on the beach is accessible to the public and offers a sobering reminder of the civilian toll of the occupation. No road disruptions related to the ceremony were reported.
