Greece Launches Travel Voucher Program for Low-Income Citizens

Sunday, 31 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Greece's public employment agency DYPA has launched its Social Tourism program for 2026-2027, offering travel vouchers to eligible Greek residents, including low-income households, unemployed individuals, and pensioners. The vouchers can be used at participating hotels and accommodation providers across Greece, including Crete. For international visitors, this means increased domestic tourism activity at Cretan resorts and hotels throughout the season, which may affect availability at participating properties. Travelers planning to book accommodation in Crete should check in advance whether their chosen hotel participates in the scheme, as rooms may be partially reserved for voucher holders. The program runs across the 2026 and 2027 tourist seasons. Foreign tourists are not eligible for the vouchers, but the program signals continued strong demand for Crete as a destination among both Greek and international visitors.
