Hersonissos set for major waterfront transformation with new pier complex

Hersonissos, one of Crete's busiest coastal resort towns, is set to gain a major new windward pier that will significantly expand the area's waterfront infrastructure. Bathymetric surveys and a full coastal engineering study have already been completed, clearing the way for construction. The project envisions a large multi-use pier complex designed as an island-style hub, with development potential for hospitality, leisure, and maritime services at its core. For visitors, the development signals long-term improvements to the harbor zone, potentially bringing new waterfront dining, boat excursion access, and recreational spaces to a stretch of coast already popular with tourists. Hersonissos sits roughly 25 kilometers east of Heraklion along the north coast highway. No opening date has been announced yet, as the project remains in the planning and approvals phase.
